Karting has been Mikko's hobby since he was 8, and he competed in Yamaha cup during the '94-'96 seasons. The sport was on hiatus between '97-'08 while Mikko was busy building two houses for himself and his family while spending his days in the busy IT business. The call of karting was still strong, and the father of two returned to karting circuits in the summer of '08 and drove in the Rotax Max cup in '09 and '10, while also coaching his 6 and 8 year old sons to become successful young drivers. In the fall of '10 Mikko had an opportunity to test a Formula Renault 2000 car at the Alastaro motor circuit. He was able to learn the control and tuning of the car quickly, and already the first test laps resulted in very promising and competitive lap times.

Mikko's goal is to compete in the Formula Renault NEC Cup on the legendary racing circuits of Europe, the very same that have been raced by names like Kimi Raikkonen, Heikki Kovalainen, Robert Kubica and Alain Prost. While he sets his expectations realistically as a family man in his early thirties, that doesn't prevent him from pursuing his dream at full speed. Mikko has already started an aggressive training program towards the cup season. His goal for this season is to participate in races with increasing level of success. Based on the lap times so far and the quick learning of car control and tuning, he's on track towards being competitive and even winning races.
